RSPCA Lottery Competition Terms and Conditions

1. Promoter

1.1 The Promoter is RSPCA Queensland Ltd (ABN 74 851 544 037), trading as RSPCA Lottery, located at 139 Wacol Station Road, Wacol QLD 4076, Australia.

2. Eligibility

2.1 This competition is open to Australian residents aged 18 years or over.

2.2 To be eligible to enter, entrants must:

  • Be the legal owner or primary carer of the dog submitted.
  • Be a rescue dog (adopted from a registered rescue organisation, shelter, or similar).
  • Ensure the dog is currently alive and in their care at the time of entry.
  • Reside in Australia for the duration of the competition and remain available in Australia until at least 1 November 2025.
  • Submit only one entry per dog.
  • Obtain consent from any identifiable individuals featured in submitted media.
  • Ensure the dog poses no safety risk to people or animals.

2.3 Employees (and their immediate families) of the Promoter or any associated agencies or companies are ineligible to enter.

3. Competition Period

3.1 The competition commences at 12.30PM AEST on Thursday, 14 August 2025 and closes at 11.59PM AEST on Thursday, 28 August 2025. 

3.2 Entries received outside of the competition period will not be accepted.

4. How to Enter

4.1 Entrants must share a photo or video of their rescue dog and a caption (maximum 200 words) explaining why their dog should be the face of the RSPCA Lottery. 

4.2 Platform-specific instructions:

Facebook:

  • Comment on the official competition post on the RSPCA Lottery Facebook page.
  • Include the photo/video and caption (within the same comment).

Instagram:

  • Post the photo/video on your public feed.
  • Include your caption in the post.
  • Tag @rspcalottery and use the hashtag #RSPCALotteryStar.

4.3 All entries must be publicly visible and comply with the relevant platform’s terms.

4.4 This promotion is conducted by RSPCA Lottery in support of RSPCA’s charitable purposes. Entry is free, and making a donation or purchasing lottery tickets will not increase the chances of winning.

4.5 Entry into the competition is deemed acceptance of these Terms & Conditions.

5. Judging Criteria and Winner Notification

5.1 This is a game of skill; chance plays no part in determining the winner. 

5.2 Entries will be judged by a panel based on:

  • Personality of the dog
  • Emotional impact of the rescue story
  • Alignment with RSPCA values (compassion, positivity, celebration of rescue)

5.3 Disqualified entries include those that contain:

  • Copyrighted material not owned by the entrant
  • AI-generated or altered content
  • Platform policy violations
  • Misleading or false information

5.4 One (1) winner will be selected and notified via direct message on their entry platform within seven (7) days of judging.

5.5 If the winner cannot be contacted or meet participation requirements within seven (7) days, an alternate winner may be selected.

5.6 The winner’s identity and entry will not be made public until the campaign launches in October 2025.

6. Prize

6.1 The prize includes:

  • A professional photo and video shoot for the winning dog
  • The opportunity to be featured in the RSPCA Lottery marketing campaign and promotional activity, including media interviews
  • A pet prize pack valued at up to AUD $1,000
  • Travel/accommodation coverage if the winner is located more than 50km from the shoot (subject to Promoter discretion)
  • Reasonable travel expenses (e.g. economy flights, standard accommodation, local transport)

6.2 No additional appearance fees or compensation will be provided for participation in campaign activities, beyond the stated prize pack and travel coverage.

6.3 The winner must sign a Talent Release and Participation Agreement within seven (7) days of notification. This will set out full participation requirements, health and welfare conditions, production schedules, usage rights, and any exclusivity terms. Details in the Talent Release will take precedence over any other competition materials regarding winner obligations. Failure to sign will result in disqualification and the selection of an alternative winner.

7. Intellectual Property

7.1 By entering the competition, entrants confirm they:

  • Own the submitted content and can grant usage rights.
  • Grant the Promoter a royalty-free, worldwide, non-exclusive licence to use, reproduce, modify, and publish submitted content (including entrant’s name, social handle, and dog’s name/image) for promotional purposes in connection with the RSPCA Lottery, across all media.
  • Agree that content may be used for two (2) years from campaign launch, with archival/historical use in perpetuity.

8. Liability

8.1 The Promoter is not responsible for lost, late, or misdirected entries, or for technical issues affecting entry.
8.2 To the extent permitted by law, the Promoter accepts no liability for any loss, damage, or injury suffered in connection with the promotion or prize.

9. General Conditions

9.1 The Promoter may verify entries and disqualify any that are incomplete, indecipherable, objectionable, or not in accordance with these Terms & Conditions.

9.2 Proof of identity, age, residency, and rescue status may be required.

9.3 The Promoter may cancel, amend, or terminate the competition if circumstances arise beyond its control.

9.4 Participants must have bill payer consent to access the internet or mobile data. Data charges remain the participant’s responsibility.

9.5 This promotion is not sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or associated with Facebook or Instagram.

9.6 Entrants (and the winner) must not engage in behaviour that could bring the RSPCA or its fundraising activities into disrepute.

10. Animal Welfare Provisions

10.1 All campaign activities must comply with relevant animal welfare legislation and RSPCA policies.
10.2 Shoot days will follow these welfare rules:

  •  No outdoor shoots in temperatures above 30°C or below 10°C
  • Shade, water, and rest breaks every 30 minutes
  • Maximum four (4) hours active shooting per day
  • A qualified veterinarian on call for the duration
  • An RSPCA-approved animal welfare officer will supervise all production activities

10.3 The dog’s welfare takes precedence over all production requirements.

11. Data Protection and Analytics

11.1 The Promoter may collect:

  • Engagement metrics from the winner’s posts
  • Campaign performance data
  • Audience demographic information

11.2 The winner grants permission for ongoing monitoring of their public social media during the campaign.

11.3 All data collection will comply with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). Privacy policy: https://www.rspcaqld.org.au/privacy

12. Force Majeure

12.1 Neither party is liable for delays or failures due to circumstances beyond their control, including:

  • Natural disasters
  • Pandemic-related restrictions
  • Government regulations
  • Death or serious illness of the winning dog

12.2 In such cases, both parties will work in good faith to agree on alternative arrangements.
