Pet Supporter Winner Story | From Birthday Gift to $5,000 Win

Sometimes, the smallest gestures can lead to the biggest surprises.

Jason originally joined the RSPCA Lottery Pet Supporter Club as a birthday gift for his daughter and ended up winning $5,000 in gold bullion in one of our monthly Pet Supporter prize draws.  

When asked about his initial reaction.

“I thought it was a scam at first” Jason admitted. “Then, when I got the official email from RSPCA, I thought, oh, I’ve actually won.” 

Jason shared the story behind joining as a Pet Supporter.

“The reason I joined the lottery was a birthday present for my daughter”. “She was studying vet science and is a huge animal lover.”  He continued “when we were talking about what to get her, I happened to get a call from RSPCA saying, do you want to join a lottery for $10 a month? So, we got it as a birthday gift and told our daughter we were contributing to the RSPCA in her name.”

The story comes full circle. Jason and his wife decided to convert the gold bullion prize into cash and make some dreams come true, including a special trip to visit their daughter.

“Our daughter now works at a wildlife reserve on Hamilton Island” Jason shared, “so my wife was able to go up to Hamilton Island and spend her birthday with her.”

Jason also travelled to the U.S. for the first time in 30 years to celebrate Thanksgiving with family, thanks in part to this unexpected windfall.

“When we won, we said we could both do these trips we’ve been talking about.”
